Codec is a windows media player component which allow you to play various formats. This tweak prevents the Player from automatically downloading codecs to your computer. In addition, the Download codecs automatically check box on the Player tab in the Player is not available.
 Operating System Windows 2000 / XP / 2003
Steps for applying this Tweak
- Open your registry
- Go to HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\WindowsMediaPlayer
- create or modify dword value called "PreventCodecDownload"
- set value as 0 to disable and 1 to enable this tweak.
- restart windows media player for setting to take effect.
