Force Classic Start menu

Operating System Windows XP / 2003
Category Start Menu and Taskbar

This setting effects the presentation of the Start menu. This Tweak will allow you enable classic start menu which windows 2000 style. When classic start menu is used following icons are placed on the desktop: My Documents, My Pictures, My Music, My Computer, and My Network Places. The new Start menu starts them directly.

Above Given is an example of New Menu. There are no Icons on the desktop and All Important Icons are embedded in Start menu.

Steps for applying this Tweak

  • Open your Registry
  • Go to one of the following location

    • For changes to occur for current user
      • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ Policies\Explorer

    • For change to occur for all users
      • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ Policies\Explorer

  • Create or Modify if exists Dword value called "NoSimpleStartMenu"
  • set value as 0 to select between classic and new menu Or set value as 1 to select classic menu only
  • Restart or logout windows for setting to take effect.
