This will allow you to track down the shutdown event, that is without providing the reason you cannot shutdown the computer. After applying this tweak all log of shutdown events will be maintained and can be check using event viewer service in administrative tool found in control panel.

Operating System Windows 2000 / XP / 2003
- Open your registry
- Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Reliability
- create or modify if already exists the value called ShutdownReasonUI
- set it's value to 0 to disable or 1 to enable
- restart your computer for setting to take effect
To return to normal shutdown delete "ShutdownReasonUI" value
